FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is the government entity looking after the FSSAI registration of sellers in the market. FoSCoS (Food Safety Compliance System) is another body that works hand in hand to regulate food licensing. The FoSCoS provides the certificate only when the compliance is met with. It has huge importance in the present society and is thus taken seriously.

What Is Food Licensing?

Food licensing is a process where a person wanting to start selling a certain food product is made to pass through.  It is a serious process where the quality of food and health of the customer is given utmost importance. The test is done chemically to see if the food is safe to be consumed. The food Licensing goes through a variety of checks by the concerned departments. Some of these departments keeping a check are:

  • Food Safety Compliance through Regular Inspection and Sampling (FoSCoRIS)

  • Food Import Clearing System (FICS)

  • Indian Food Laboratory Network (InFoLNet)

  • Audit Management System (AMS)

  • Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC)

  • Food Safety Mitra (FSM)

These are not all but are some of the major parts of the food licensing process.

Importance of FSSAI Food License?

FSSAI plays an important role in the running of a food business as without an FSSAI Food Licence Registration one cannot sell their product. It does not have a safety badge and is thus not trusted by the public. Having a FSSAI license gives the public the confidence to consume the product. Because it is FSSAI registered it also has the FoSCoS approval which deals with the compliance of the product with the health standards set by the agency. The various advantages of having an FSSAI Certification are:

  • Consumer awareness: The consumer is aware of the safety standards of the food

  • Legal Advantage: The food Seller is legally registered and thus has the right to sell the food.

  • Using the FSSAI Logo: Having the logo gives the food sealer confidence to draw customers.

  • Business Expansion: Business expansion becomes easy as it is FSSAI approved which is a PAN India Certificate.

Conclusion

WIth the Society now leaning towards a more hectic schedule, one often orders the food rather than make them. It is an emerging culture that has led to the rise in restaurants and online food delivery apps. These all function on the terms of the FSSAI and are kept under scrutiny. Thus the importance of FSSAI and FoSCoS in determining the safety standards of the food available plays an integral role. Having a FSSAI registration Certificate gives the consumer the belief of safe food.
