Metro work has created muck rack for the residents of Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company.

It has been reported, that 50 staff of E5 Sub Division of Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company or BESCOM, dwellers are struggling with the muck torment for over 90 days now. The reason found out was the vans carrying construction and demolition supplies day in and day out for the subsisting construction of Metro expansion done sluggishly every day, it is very saddening to see that the workers are affected mostly although facemasks meant for pandemic came to be more useful to protect against dust now more than ever.

Nonetheless, after expressing severe disappointments over the failure of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) well-being division, nothing seemed to have in the past three months amidst the pandemic.

Various construction activities like land clearing, operation of diesel engines, demolition, burning, and working with toxic materials contribute to air pollution. Its winter now and the residents are struggling with mud and dust menace created and hoping the situation would improve by monsoon which has been initiated due to on and off commotion heavy vans carrying construction materials.

Having said this, blanket banning of infrastructure construction mid-way often leaves the site looking like this, with the dust and debris further polluting the environment and making matters worse.

Indian Government has also set forth guidelines and made it mandatory for construction site owners to implement dust preventive measures in order to minimize the impact on the environment it is very crucial to file a complaint about the same.

Unfortunately, there is a lack of adherence to these guidelines and more significantly lack of enforcement. If we compare a construction site in India vs in other developed parts of the world, we can immediately see how a properly executed construction project can significantly contain the amount of pollution being generated.
